NorthEast Saddle Fitters, LLC

I’m not here to sell you a saddle. I’m here to figure out what your horse needs, help you understand why, and find the best solution for your horse, your riding, and your budget.

Western, English – Horse, Mule – Independent Saddle Fitter

The Fitter

Northeast Saddle Fitters is Lori Stammer and her horse, Magic.

Based in Springfield, New Hampshire, Lori provides independent saddle fitting throughout New England. Her approach goes beyond simply deciding whether a saddle “fits.” She looks at the whole picture—the horse, the saddle, the rider, and how they work together.

Lori is an educator as much as she is a saddle fitter. She believes you should understand what is happening and why, rather than simply being handed a verdict at the end of a fitting. Throughout the process, she explains what she is looking at, what she is finding, and how those findings relate to your horse’s comfort, movement, balance, and your goals as a rider.

As an independent saddle fitter, Lori isn’t tied to one brand or one predetermined solution. She uses a variety of tools and techniques to evaluate fit and may bring English and Western saddle trees to help demonstrate differences in tree shape, width, balance, and stability. She may also bring one saddle or several when they can help explore possible solutions.

Independent INFORMATIVE Experienced

Throughout the fitting, Lori explains what she is seeing and why it matters. By comparing fit, balance, stability, clearance, and other factors, she helps you recognize the difference between a saddle that simply looks like it fits and one that is genuinely appropriate for your horse.

The goal is for you to leave not only with solutions and options, but with a better understanding of what good saddle fit looks like for your horse—and how to check your saddle as your horse changes over time.

No pressure. No brand agenda. No pretending a saddle works when it doesn’t. Just honest assessment, education, options, and solutions—with your horse at the center of the decision.

STATIC EVAL

Both your horse and the saddle is evaluated stationary. The goal is to feel, look and measure each component that will directly or indirectly impact your horse’s motion.

DYNAMIC EVAL

I will have you longe your horse and ride it. Horses tell stories in both situations. On the longe, they will move differently than being ridden. It’s imperative we find out what is potentially causing those differences.

YOUR INPUT

Throughout the process, I will ask you questions, how does this feel, what does he do when, how is she with this, what pads or shims have you tried, any changes to her feed or lifestyle, what is your horses’ story, etc.

HANDS ON CLINICS TO GROUPS AND CLUBS

Saddle fitting doesn’t have to be a mystery. It’s easier than you think to learn how to map your horse and spot the key signs of a good (or not-so-good) saddle fit. I’ll come equipped with everything you need—supplies, materials, and hands-on guidance. You’ll leave with real experience, practical tools, and a clear starting point for fitting your horse with confidence.

SADDLES SAY SO MUCH

When looking at a saddle there is much to read. Though it’s not the whole picture, it does tell me what has worked and not worked on your horse. It also helps to identify what you might need to consider if you are interested. But you know what, not everyone needs a new saddle when having a fitting. Something as simple as the right kind of shim, pad, saddle pad, gullet plate adjustment or a touch of flocking could make the difference.

THE PROCESS

I am interested in your horse, the saddle you are using, what your dreams and goals are, what your horse has done, what you have discovered about your horse’s movement, issues you may have fitting the saddle and more.

I will take measurements, ask more questions and watch you and your horse moving, both longing and being ridden.

When we are back in the barn, I like to revisit your goals and what I found. From there we talk about options, try other saddles, try all 20 different pads and shims you have and in the end, you will have a plan going forward.
